Valcarnum: Drums of War
The Fenaroc Culling
“Yaragrena…the Wildborn’s great summer of flame. They thought the blood lust would give them strength, but the Conclave showed them that they are not the only Craftborn with fire in their veins.” ~Thelras Blackmoons
At the height of their egotistical rule, The Primeborn Conclave viewed most non-primeborn with contempt and abhorrence. This hatred was at its zenith when directed toward the Wildborn tribes spread throughout Valcarnum. The savagery and lack of civility which wildborn freely embrace caused the Primeborn to regard them as little more than feral animals. This attitude exacerbated overtime and when the Conclave made plans to erect the momentous Palamasi City on the outskirts of the Kestrakai Jungle in 2E 5297, they paid little heed to their intrusion into the territory of the Fenaroc Horde. This would prove to be a grave error as the Fenaroc stuck mercilessly at the Primeborn intruders, completely devasting the unprepared Conclave. Little could be done to save the towering spires that were to be a symbol of Primeborn preeminence and what Conclave forces survived were forced to make the long journey back to Grand Alarus, baffled as to what had happened. The fall of Palamasi marked the first known failure of the Primeborn Conclave to enforce their will in Valcarnum. It boiled the blood of many proud Primeborn families, leaving them anxious for an opportunity to strike back at the Fenaroc but also fully aware of how difficult it would prove to do so.
Reeling from the loss of Palamasi, the Primeborn feared further attempts to reclaim their city would result in defeat at the hands of the Fenaroc. The Conclave would turn to subterfuge and chicanery in order to assure victory in the battle ahead. They probed the Fenaroc for a weakness that they could exploit by coordinating the capture and interrogation of any Wildborn who strayed too far from the protection of their tribe. It was through torture that the Conclave would learn of the coming of the Yaragrena, the Wildborn’s “summer of fire”. It was learned that this 300 year event would bring a terrible bloodlust upon the Wildborn and throw them into a violent frenzy for tribal dominance. Using this knowledge the Conclave struck when the disorganized Fenaroc warriors were at their weakest, winning several small skirmishes. Eventually small engagements became tide turning battles that would see the Fenaroc all but routed from the Kestrakai Jungle. Those who survived struggled to escape the watchful eyes of the Prime army, fleeing eastward into the treacherous Kir’akkar Desert.
